Steven L. Biegel joins PLACE designers

PLACE designers, Inc. today announced that Steven L. Biegel, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP has joined the company as Architecture Department Director of their Austin based firm.

Mr. Biegel is a registered architect and a member of The American Institute of Architects. He has practiced architecture and large-scale facilities planning since 1980. His architectural design history includes such notable projects as the renovation of the U.S. Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, the Securities & Exchange Commission in NYC, renovation planning for the USDA South Building in Washington, DC, K-12 Schools in Houston, Austin and Beaumont Texas, and high-rise condominium projects throughout the southeast and along the gulf coast. In 38 years of practice, Mr. Biegel has designed and/or directed A/E teams on more than 600 buildings and residences in the U.S. He graduated from Syracuse University with a 5-year degree in Architecture. He is NCARB certified, LEED Accredited and licensed in 11 states.

Widely known for his technical abilities and project management skills, Mr. Biegel has developed expertise in master planning, existing conditions assessments, building diagnostics, building envelope systems, moisture migration, indoor air quality and energy conservation. He has been the Director of Energy Programs for the American Consulting Engineers Council (ACEC) and V.P. of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS). Biegel has authored many technical studies and reference texts, including the Roofing Systems portion of the Encyclopedia of Architecture, Design & Construction, published by McGraw Hill, and a book entitled Profit By Design, published by the Matrix Design Companies. While directing building research programs at NIBS, Biegel authored technical reports on Toxicity of Building Materials, Indoor Air Quality, Asbestos in Schools & Public Buildings, Building Energy Performance Standards, and HUD/FHA Minimum Property Standards.

In 2012-13, Mr. Biegel served as Chairperson of the Council for Federal Procurement of Architecture & Engineering Services (COFPAES), a hybrid organization dedicated to protecting the Qualification Based Selection (QBS) process in all branches of government.

Mr. Biegel will direct the Architecture Studio and mentor staff members in design strategies, technical investigations of existing building conditions, master planning, and project management for clients throughout Texas. He will lead new building design efforts and assure the highest quality in new construction and renovation projects.
